The Alliance of Cocoa Producing Countries (COPAL)
The older of the two major chocolate-related intergovernmental organizations, COPAL is a club exclusively for countries that produce and export cocoa (and apparently have trouble with word order when forming acronyms). Founded by a core group of five countries in 1962, the organization is involved in activities such as scientific research, economic coordination, and promotion of chocolate products.
More cocoa trees are being affected by rainfall more than any other climate change.
Rainfall: The trees can be very sensitive when it comes to soil water deficiency.
Humidity: A hot and humid atmosphere is essential for the best development of cocoa trees.
Light and shade: The cocoa tree will make ideal use of any light available and traditionally has been grown under shade. Its natural environment is the Amazonian forest which gives natural shade trees. The shade in the early years of a cocoa tree is very important.
